Sick Days Abound

First off, my family should be sponsored by Kleenex Anti Viral tissues. We go through crazy amounts of tissues. CRAZY AMOUNTS! And since our Safeway is so totally crappy, they only have the small box making me buy 3 or 4 boxes at a time and very often. Since the new year the Little Lady has been sick twice, Big Boy 3 times, and me twice. Somehow my husband hasn’t gotten sick. It’s a miracle, for real.

Over the past 3 weeks I have had more lost alone time due to coughs and boogers than I would like to recount. My kids need to get back to school and their activities and I need to stop blowing my nose and their noses and washing hands and washing washing washing my hands.

Oh winter, you are so cruel!!!

Seabright Beach

I can hardly call it exploring when we keep going to the same place but Seabright Beach is our beach of choice. They have bathrooms. There is no weird, gross smell. It is clean. It is bliss.

We did drive around a little bit and see the natural bridge and some super nice neighborhoods. I checked the price on one house for sale and it was a mere $1,495,000.00. Just a tad out of our budget. I hope they had toilets of Gil because the house didn’t look like anything all that amazing.

It’s been a while since we dined at the Santa Cruz Diner so we stopped in. That place has everything. If you ever find yourself in Santa Cruz you must eat at the Santa Cruz Diner. The food is great, there are options for every kind of eater, and Guy ate there. I had the vegan curry and it was a total winner.

Real Love

Conversation Hearts are one of my favorite candies. I love them. The flavors are gross yet delicious and the messages are lame, but they are my favorite candy in February. Did I mention I love them?

The Little Lady agrees with my candy sense and has been talking about these delicious, anatomically incorrect delights for over a month. Finally we got to dine on them. Today we learned that Big Boy is also a fan. He had his box opened and was choking down in them within moments and moments before a traditional breakfast was served.

As we sat eating candy at the playground today, I noticed the REAL (heart) heart candy. Since then I have been singing some song called “Real Love” that my sister listened to a lot in the 90′s. If the song would please leave my mind now I would be very grateful.

Hidden Villa

Hidden Villa 2.2.13

Last weekend we packed up the snacks and backpacks and headed over to the Los Altos Hills. Our friends found this amazing farm, land, picnic, hiking area called Hidden Villa. To say I am smitten with this little treasure would possibly be an understatement. They had me at “educational garden.” And within this garden there was a pizza garden with oregano, basil, wheat, garlic, and some other stuff. I am not sure if there were tomatoes since the garden was neat but fully functional since it is winter. This is the 2nd pizza garden I have seen and I think there will be a pizza garden in our future.

I am pretty sure we will be visiting again this summer when all the plants are growing veggies and the flowers are in full bloom. Here are some photos from our trip. More can be found over on flickr. Stop by and check them out.

Bring On The Birds

8 02 2013

As you may remember, last spring and summer brought us, and 4 or 5 birds families, a lot of joy. Baby birds being birthed and raised right outside our sliding glass door and kitchen window. I spent hours staring, stalking, watching, waiting, and photographing those darn birds. By the last family I was sick of all the poop and I thought I would never need to witness this again. I was wrong.

Recently, the birds have been scoping out our backyard. They seem perplexed that their home is missing. They keep visiting and searching for something that is long gone. I don’t even know why I care. There is about 5 different types of birds that frequent our backyard all day long. There are constantly birds out there keeping busy. Why do I care that these pigeon/dove things are out there needing a nest and coo-ing or whatever they are sounding like all the time?

The kids care too. The Little Lady was snapping photos the other day. Ooh, which reminds me that I took one with the real camera…I’ll post it if I remember. Actually The Little Lady took somewhat bad pictures but did happen to take some bad pictures of one flying away. She had a little photo shoot thing going on. Point of that blah blah blah is that she notices the birds are there and so does Big Boy. He loves birds and notices them everywhere. “Mom, there’s a bird!” I get a lot of that, usually when I am driving and he is looking out the back passenger side window. Very difficult for me to see that bird.

Where am I going with this? We bought a new basket and some fake flowers in hope that these birds will shack up for us to watch. We all would get super excited when the babies arrive or when mama stretched her legs so we could check out the eggs below her. The whole process happening right before our eyes is so Discovery Channel. I think it’s good for the kids to enjoy as well as long as the poop stays outside and out of their hands.

Camera Testing

7 02 2013

My poor children have been made to pose, jump, laugh, and pretend to read books so that I can play with our new camera. They will grow up and never take a single picture! Nah, they like taking photos too. Both can be found using iPods and our iPhones to take pictures of the world around them.

Since I don’t want to wear them out of having to pose or pretend activities for my own pleasure, I took some photos of feet and hands today. I have always liked taking pictures of their feet and hands. They are so little and cute. I remember just wanting to see The Little Lady’s feet when she was born. I just had to see them as soon as possible. Those toes and heels and they are so soft and scrumdidiliumscious. Their feet are bigger and wider and pudgier these days but I still adore them. The Little Lady had on footie pj’s so I used her hands which are also cute.

Dennis The Menace

There’s The Little Lady climbing at Dennis The Menace park in Monterey. Word on the street is that this park is the greatest. I would disagree, but it was good. They have a huge roller slide so it gets thumbs up from me. Big Boy also gave it a thumbs up, rolling the slide about 20 times. Apparently he has a favorite kind of slide. (As a quick side note, Big Boy appears to not need me as much for slides anymore. I did have to go with him once and I went to the top to help him get on the slide instead of letting all the bigger kids go in front of him. He went on the slide and a few others all by himself and didn’t ask for my hand. My baby is growing up. tear)

We had fun at the park. We tested out our new camera. Fact: we continue to take better photos in auto modes but will get the hang of the darn thing with a lot of trial and error. Post-park we hit Turtle Bay Taqueria, which was good but not great. Then we looked for a beach to play on. There are a lot of rocky shoreline areas that we found but not much beach. The views and waves were spectacular. Huge waves crashing on massive rocks with amazing water explosions. I have never witnessed anything like it. We finally found a beach with the finest sand and the kids got to run free. It was a little too cool and windy to hang out too long.

On our way out of town we drove through Cannery Row. Unsure what book to read, I took a cue from our drive and downloaded John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row. I cannot wait to start reading it.
