As you may remember, last spring and summer brought us, and 4 or 5 birds families, a lot of joy. Baby birds being birthed and raised right outside our sliding glass door and kitchen window. I spent hours staring, stalking, watching, waiting, and photographing those darn birds. By the last family I was sick of all the poop and I thought I would never need to witness this again. I was wrong.
Recently, the birds have been scoping out our backyard. They seem perplexed that their home is missing. They keep visiting and searching for something that is long gone. I don’t even know why I care. There is about 5 different types of birds that frequent our backyard all day long. There are constantly birds out there keeping busy. Why do I care that these pigeon/dove things are out there needing a nest and coo-ing or whatever they are sounding like all the time?
The kids care too. The Little Lady was snapping photos the other day. Ooh, which reminds me that I took one with the real camera…I’ll post it if I remember. Actually The Little Lady took somewhat bad pictures but did happen to take some bad pictures of one flying away. She had a little photo shoot thing going on. Point of that blah blah blah is that she notices the birds are there and so does Big Boy. He loves birds and notices them everywhere. “Mom, there’s a bird!” I get a lot of that, usually when I am driving and he is looking out the back passenger side window. Very difficult for me to see that bird.
Where am I going with this? We bought a new basket and some fake flowers in hope that these birds will shack up for us to watch. We all would get super excited when the babies arrive or when mama stretched her legs so we could check out the eggs below her. The whole process happening right before our eyes is so Discovery Channel. I think it’s good for the kids to enjoy as well as long as the poop stays outside and out of their hands.
